Technology and Education

Nowadyas, technology has become one of the most usefull tools all aroud the world. Many people rely on this powerful mass media mean to face today´s globalized world. Likewise, the use of technology and the internet have become the far and big 19ths and 20ths century world into a small and well-known village in the earliest 21st century. Moreover, erveryday, millions of people use the internet to carry out simple things like to buy a book or send an e-mail or in most of te cases the internet is used to develop more complex activieties like to attend a video conference when one of the person is in Japan and the other one is in Colombia.


On the other hand, There is vast range of activities and processes that can be done by using technology and the internet, activities and processes that everyday are changing the world and of course the men´s mind.

In the education field case , and especifically, in the languages teaching-learning process , the internet has revolutionized the methodology and the didacticism with which, teachers and students have begun to percive foreign languges as a mean of communication and not as a group of words with rigorous rules and isolated viocabulary that do not triggers communication among languages students. In addition, the internet gives the opportunity to practice many languages with people from all around the world in real time and using real languge expressions to communicate feelings and ideas.

Moreover, new language teachers generation, are using internet as a effective tool to teach without being in a classroom in front of the students, saving time, money which contribute to learn a languge in a easier form.

English Methodology


We always talk about English methodology, But what is the meaningful meaning of this? English methodology is related with the strategies used to teach and to learn, in short words English methodology is used for those who has the beautiful labor of teaching.


It is important to point out that a teacher is a model for the students, so his work can mark the student’s life. The role of a teacher is not easy, for that reason he has to look for strategies that make students recognize the importance of learning. Nowadays there are resources to teach and to learn, some of those resources are the internet, the materials we can use in the classroom, and all we have is because of the progress of the technology, so the better decision could be to take advantage of that.

DIDACTICS

Teaching and learning are processes which need dedication, creativity, patient, imagination, hard work and motivation, those are some virtues that teachers need in their roles as guides of many students in many primary and high schools; but, in the same way, exist differet disciplines that can help teachers in their different processes and activities; for example, the didactic, that according to Gutierrez (2001):

Didactic is a discipline which studies the relationship between teaching and learning. Pansza (1986) also comments that didactics approaches differently to the classroom work. In the following chart, it is possible to look at it clearly.

Then, it can be said that didactics may be defined in two ways, as the art of teaching or as the discipline about teaching. In the first sense, the art, it is being expected that didactics explains the process as the “practical cognitive quality, the inner skill to produce specific tasks” (Gutiérrez, 2001:14). This is, the ability teachers show to communicate knowledge to others, to make easier for students to understand the content they are learning.

In the second sense, didactics as the science refers to “clear, ordered and supported concept in theory” (Gutiérrez, 2001:15). It is also believed that to know about the methodology is not enough to acquire the art of teaching. But, it is a required step to reach that art, if a teacher is not a born-gifted. From this perspective, it can be stated that this discipline has two objects of study (Gutiérrez, 2001:15)

1. The teaching – learning process
2. The teaching – learning techniques and methods

Therefore, according to Gutiérrez (2001:15), didactics is the “science which studies the teaching – learning phenomena as prescriptive aspects of an efficient methodology.” That is to say, this discipline deals with the formal aspects of teaching, methodology and all elements that interact within the classroom.

I agree with “Gutierrez Saenz, Raul” (2001) definition about didactic, and consider that teachers play a very important role in the learning process and they can demonstrate their capacities and knowledge with their didactics classes and strategies, helping and orienting many students in their personal goals and learning process.

It is important too, that learners are aware about their personal dreams and goals, and in that way they can appreciate and recognize the teacher’s efforts and dedication.

All the goals and activities are possible when the teachers in their didactics applications planning or prepare classes to take into account important things like: the class room management, the learners, the materials, the personal aims, different and extrovertly strategies that call the students attention, and the most important their personal motivation, teachers need transmit to the students positive motivation in order to the students learn English in a pleasure way.
